What works with Pitch Signal

Pitch Signal runs on the phones and tablets your coaches already carry. Players get each call on a Pitch Signal Watch, an Apple Watch, or through Bluetooth earbuds. Assistants and Players can also participate via their own mobile app. Here is what each setup needs.

Choose your setup

Every player needs one way to receive calls. Mix and match across your roster.

The Pitch Signal app on a phone

Phones and tablets

Apple devices with iOS 15.1 or later, and Android phones and tablets with Android 7.0 or later, running the Pitch Signal app.

The yellow Pitch Signal Base

Pitch Signal Base and Watch

Our flagship hardware. RF communication that is truly one-way and reliable, in kits from a two-player watch kit to infield and full-field setups.

Apple Watch

Apple Watch Series 5 or newer. Calls arrive over Bluetooth from the coach's phone or a Pitch Signal Base.

Earbuds icon

Bluetooth earbuds

Any Bluetooth audio device, including AirPods and Beats Solo Buds, connected to the coach's phone or to any phone that has joined the team's session.

Apple Watch

Series 5 or newer, running watchOS 9 or later.

What the player sees

The pitch and its location on a Catcher or Pitcher view grid, or as plain text.

A tap on the wrist

The watch taps the player's wrist for every new call, so they know to look.

How calls arrive

Over Bluetooth, straight from the coach's phone or through a Pitch Signal Base.

Coach setup

Turn on Watch Broadcast in the Pitch Signal app before the session starts.

Apple Watch is often treated as a two-way communication device, so confirm it is allowed under your governing body's rules. Bluetooth can be less stable in crowded environments, so test before game day.

Bluetooth earbuds

Range tested on many Bluetooth audio devices. Class 1 Bluetooth devices are recommended.

Connect first

Pair the earbuds with the phone before joining the session. The phone speaks each call through them.

Keep the app open

Leave Pitch Signal open with the screen on. If the screen locks, calls may be delayed or missed.

Tips: wear one earbud, turn off Auto-Lock, and make sure the phone is not on silent with the volume up.

Questions about devices

Do I need a Pitch Signal Base to use an Apple Watch?

No. An Apple Watch can get calls straight from the coach's phone over Bluetooth. A Pitch Signal Base gives watches another way to receive calls.

Do earbuds need a Pitch Signal Base?

No. Earbuds connect to the coach's phone, or to a player's phone that has joined the session.

Which earbuds work?

Pitch Signal works with any Bluetooth audio device, including AirPods and Beats Solo Buds, and many teams use inexpensive earbuds without issues. Class 1 Bluetooth devices are recommended for the most range.

Do Samsung Galaxy Watch or other Wear OS watches work?

Not at this time. Players with Android phones can receive calls through Bluetooth earbuds or a Pitch Signal Watch.

Are earbuds and smartwatches allowed in games?

It depends on your league. Check your governing body's rules on electronic devices before game day.
